What do I need to know when planning a podcast assignment for students in my course?

Tips for instructors:

Make sure an audio assignment aligns with your course outcomes and learning activities.

Be clear about how you will assess students’ work, e.g. technical quality, content, team contributions, quality and relevance of resources used, etc.

Ensure students have access to the required technology and support in using it. Let students know what support will be offered, and how (e.g. will you devote class time for training on the tools and technology required to complete the assignment?).

Give students enough time to book equipment in the Library, practice with the technology and schedule time in the Audio Production Rooms. Scaffolded assignments with spread out deliverables or due dates are one way to ensure more students will have access to Library spaces and technology, and avoid a stressful end-of-semester rush.

Ensure students know about ethical use of information, especially if their creations will be shared beyond the classroom. Reach out to the Copyright Advisor or visit the copyright page for resources and guidance about reusing, modifying, citing and attributing sources.
