How can I check if MRU Library has a specific journal?

Students often search for a journal when what they really need is a journal article—a single piece of research published inside a journal. Here’s how to find both:

To see if the Library has a journal (print or online)

  • Go to the MRU Library homepage.
  • Click Journals under the main search box.
  • Enter the journal title (for example, Canadian Journal of Nursing Research) or its ISSN (a unique 8-digit number that identifies a specific journal, like an ISBN does for books).
  • Check the results for links that say Available Online or show a Call Number for print copies.
  • Under Access Options, you’ll see which years and volumes are available. Some journals have a short delay (called an embargo) before the newest issues appear online.

To find an article on your topic

If you’re looking for an article (not a whole journal), start with:

  • LibrarySearch — search by topic, keyword, or author.
  • Or try a subject-specific database (like CINAHL for Nursing or PsycINFO for Psychology).

If MRU doesn’t have the article you need, request it for free through Interlibrary Loan—we’ll find a copy for you.
