What is the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)?

The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) is a free, searchable database of peer-reviewed open access journals and their articles. It’s a great starting point for finding trusted journals that do not charge readers and sometimes don’t charge authors either.

What does the DOAJ Seal mean?

The DOAJ Seal highlights journals that follow best practices in open access publishing (e.g., long-term archiving, clear reuse rights).

Journals without the seal can still be reputable and peer-reviewed—always check scope and publisher info.

How to search

Use the Quick Search bar to look up titles, ISSNs, subjects, or publishers.

After searching, use Refine search results in the left sidebar to filter by subject, language, license, APCs (fees), and more.
