I’d like to show a Netflix (or similar) film on campus for a non-educational purpose. Is this possible?

Netflix, Crave, Amazon Prime, Disney+, etc. are commercial services provided to individual end users and do not have institutional licenses available to purchase. The Terms of Use of these services often restrict showing their content in public settings (i.e. a classroom or somewhere else on campus). In some cases, these services may grant permission to show their content. If you would like to seek permission or are uncertain about a personal subscription service’s Terms of Use, reach out to the Copyright Advisor (mrucopyright@mtroyal.ca).

Some of Netflix’s documentaries have educational performance rights attached to them and these films can be viewed in class for educational purposes.
