What is the best practice for attributing works licensed under Creative Commons?

If you are creating an OER that includes openly licensed content created by other people (whether that be text, images, or videos), you must attribute (give credit to) the original creator. This is a minimum requirement for materials licensed under a Creative Commons license

When attributing the creator, you should remember the acronym TASL. These are the four things you need to include in an attribution statement.

T

Title

Title of the work

A

Author

Author of the work

S

Source

Links to the work's source and author page

L

License

Link to information about the license

Example:

Bouquet of brightly colored flowers.

Small bouquet of purple flowers” by Marco Verch is licensed under CC BY 2.0.

In this example, the attribution statement includes the title of the image, the photographer, and the license. In addition, it links to the source of the photo, the photographer’s page, and information about the license.
