Can I include copyright protected images in my research?

You may be able to include copyright protected images in your research under fair dealing, or a similar user right, images under an applicable open license, or by using a public domain image. If none of these apply, you can seek permission from the copyright owner to use their image in your research. See Permissions Support. Publishers are often risk averse and may ask you to seek permission for the use of any third-party materials, even if their use qualifies as fair dealing.
