What is LibKey Nomad?

What is LibKey Nomad?

LibKey Nomad is a browser extension that helps you find full-text articles and ebooks available through Mount Royal Library from almost anywhere on the web.

By adding LibKey Nomad to the browser you already use -- such as Chrome, Firefox, or Safari -- you will see pop-ups like this that will connect you to full-text articles and ebooks that we provide through the Library. LibKey Nomad will also check if an article is Open Access to offer you all available options.

LibKey Nomad works on publisher websites like Nature and Wiley, PubMed, Google Scholar, Wikipedia, and more!

How Do I Install LibKey Nomad?

1. Choose Your Browser

Choose the browser you are using for your research already below, and download the extension for that browser.

Don't see your browser listed? Check out the LibKey website for additional options.

2. Choose Your Institution

Once the extension is installed, choose Mount Royal University as your institution to connect to our Library.

In Chrome and Edge, the following window should pop up automatically.

To get to this screen in Firefox, once you have installed the extension, click on the puzzle piece icon in the top right corner of your browser. Click on LibKey and the option to select your institution will appear.

And that's it! LibKey Nomad is now ready to use in your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do all the different LibKey Nomad pop-ups mean?

Depending on the webpage, the LibKey Nomad pop-up may say different things. Here is what they mean:

Download PDF - this will take you right to the PDF to view or download. If you are off campus, you may be taken to MyMRU to log in first before seeing the full text.

Access Options - there may be multiple ways to access this article through the Library -- or it may be Open Access. This will take you to MRU LibrarySearch where you can access it or request a copy via Interlibrary Loan.

Article Link - MRU Library subscribes to this article and this button will take you to it.

View E-Book - MRU Library owns or subscribes to this eBook and this button will take you to it.

Why does LibKey Nomad show up on some webpages but not others?

Some websites don't work with LibKey Nomad. Here is the list of publishers that do work with LibKey Nomad

On the websites it partners with, LibKey Nomad is looking for the "DOI" or "PMID" that identifies an article, or the "eISBN" that identifies an eBook. If it doesn't have one, such as on a newspaper or magazine article, then LibKey Nomad won't pop up.

Will LibKey Nomad work on my phone or tablet?

No, unfortunately LibKey Nomad is only available on browsers for desktop or laptop computers.

If LibKey Nomad says something is unavailable, how can I double check with the Library?

Try using LibrarySearch to look for the title of the article, journal, or book. If we do not have access, you may be able to get a copy of an article or book through an Interlibrary Loan request. If you need additional help finding books or articles, ask us via our Chat service or stop by the service desk on the first floor.
