The Natural Language Search option in LibrarySearch takes your plain language explanation of what you are looking for (e.g. Find peer reviewed journal articles published since 2020 on using TikTok to market a business) and applies generative AI technology to convert what you typed into a more complex library search query. This includes adding synonyms and applying filters like resource type or date ranges.
Once you have run your search, you can click on generated query to see how your original search was translated. For example, the generated query for the example above added synonyms like social media marketing and business promotion to the search, and applied the peer review, resource type - articles, and creation date limits to the results.
If your natural language search results do not quite hit the mark, looking at the generated query may still give you ideas of new search terms to try.
According to Clarivate's AI policy (the company behind the LibrarySearch technology), your searches in the natural language search tool will not be used to train large language models.
Please note that a default search from the Library’s homepage does not use Generative AI technology and the natural language search is completely optional.
