Academic Integrity: Where to Find Help
Where can I find official information about academic integrity and misconduct at MRU?
See MRU’s official Academic Integrity pages for expectations and policy, Student FAQs for common questions, Student Community Standards for information about process, meetings, and decisions, and the Appeals page for information about requesting a review of a decision.
Who can help me understand the process or my options?
The Getting Support page explains that students may bring a support person at any stage of the process. It also links to supports including SAMRU Student Advocacy, the Iniskim Centre, Access and Inclusion Services, Wellness Services, and Early Support.
What kind of information might I be asked about?
You may be asked to describe how your work was developed. It can help to have:
- notes, outlines, and drafts
- sources you used
- saved versions or document history
How can I show how I developed my work?
For reference, here are some examples of how other universities address documenting the writing process and AI use.
- University of Manitoba (Academic Integrity): suggests keeping drafts, notes, sources, and version history to show how work was developed.
- University of Waterloo (AI & Academic Integrity): advises retaining drafts, references, and AI prompts to explain your work process if needed.
- University of Waterloo (Writing & Communication Centre): outlines simple ways to document AI use and writing steps (e.g., logs or records).
Where can I get help with learning, writing, and study skills?
Student Learning Services (SLS) offers self-paced resources, workshops, and one-to-one appointments with a Learning Strategist. Their resources include areas such as referencing, citation, and academic integrity.
Where can I get help with research, sources, and citation?
The Library can help with finding sources, using sources appropriately, citation guidance, and organizing research. You can also get one-to-one library help with research questions, including meeting with a subject librarian, and support for building your academic research skills.
What should I do if I have questions about a concern related to my work?
Review the official MRU pages, follow any instructions you have received, and connect with the appropriate support service for process, advocacy, learning support, or research help.
